For many university students the chance to study abroad is one of the most exciting aspects of university life. Organised through the European Union, the Erasmus Programme allows European students to travel to a foreign university and undertake a period of study lasting between three months and a full academic year. To register with foreign universities you may need to have certain documents translated so, whether you a coming to the UK from abroad, or leaving the UK to study in Europe, here is the TransAction guide to making sure you have everything ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
What documents do I need translating for my Erasmus year?
The first step is to find out from your home or partner university which documents will need translating. In some cases universities are willing to accept documents in their original language. Universities might require certified translations of any of the following:
English language proficiency test certificate
Proof of citizenship (e.g. information page of passport)
Special needs requirements (if applicable)
Please note that the above generally apply for Masters level students rather than undergraduates. For undergraduates an application form and a Learning Agreement document, which guarantees recognition by the host university of modules taken at the home university, are sufficient.
What’s next?
Once you know which documents need translating, the next step is to get in contact with TransAction Translators for a free quote. You can either do this through our website or by contacting us on 01142661103. We will need to see a full copy of your documents, so take a look at our document preparation guide on how to get your documents ready to send. Once we have seen your documents we will provide you with a quote for your translation based on the number of words, the timeframe and the language combination.
If you are happy with our quote and would like to go ahead with the translation, we will take payment from you. Payment can be made over the phone by credit card (£4.00 charge), UK debit card (no charge), by UK cheque or postal order made payable to ‘TransAction Translators Ltd‘, by bank transfer, PayPal (£4.00) and Money Bookers (£2.00).
Once the payment has been logged, we will proceed with the translation. Once complete, the translation will be checked and proofread by at least two members of our team, ensuring a high level of accuracy to make your registration process run as smoothly as possible. The translation will then be ready for your approval by email, at which point you can check that you are satisfied or raise any queries.
In order for the translation to be an official document it needs to be certified. This means that we attach a declaration to the translation, along with a copy of the original document, stating that a true and accurate translation had been provided. This is then stamped, dated and signed by one of our directors. The translator’s name and qualifications are also given. We will send you your documents by post, or we can send them directly to your university if required. We are also able to send you a PDF of the translation on request.
All of our staff at TransAction Translators have experienced how exciting it can be to study abroad, and we are very familiar with the Erasmus process. For a free quote regarding the translation of your documents, or for any other advice we can offer, email transaction@transaction.co.uk.
