As European language specialists, a language we often work with is Italian, particularly in the combination Italian-English. We were recently asked to carry out a certified Italian-English translation of a marriage certificate, and this is something we were able to do quickly and efficiently, removing all the fuss from the procedure for the client.
The first step was to ask the client to send us a copy of their documents. We need to see the document as our quotes are based not only on language combination, but also wordcount. Once we had seen the document we were happy to tell the client that it fell within our minimum charge for certified translation, which is £65. This price includes the costs for VAT, certification and first class post.
What is a certified translation?
The client had stated that the translation was for use in application for teacher training status in the UK. This meant that the type of translation they required was a certified translation. A certified translation comes with stamps and a certificate to state that we have provided a true and accurate translation which was carried out by a qualified professional. As we are a member of the Association of Translation Companies (ATC), our certified translations are accepted by all official UK bodies, such as the Home Office, Passport Office and Primary Care Trusts as well as many authorities abroad.
Getting the go-ahead
Once we had received payment, we were able to translate the document quickly and have it checked twice by our qualified in-house linguists. Please note that this service is also included within the original cost, and gives you a level of assurance and quality for which other companies charge extra. As the details of certificates can make the difference between a successful or unsuccessful application, we feel these checks are important.
The next stage was to send the client a copy of the translation, via email, for their approval. This is to check they were completely satisfied with how their translation had turned out. Approval received, we issued our declaration and added our stamps to the translation. Once that was done we sent the client the hard copy of the document. All of this was achieved within 3 days of the client’s initial enquiry.
