We are often asked to provide translations for use in court. For example, if one of our clients gets married abroad and then decides to get divorced here in the UK, they will need to have their foreign Marriage Certificate translated in order for it to be of use in the divorce proceedings. As the document is for use in court, the client must provide what is known as a sworn translation.
What is a Sworn Translation?
A sworn translation is one which is accompanied by an affidavit. An affidavit is a legal document which is sworn by our translator in the presence of a solicitor. In the affidavit the translator swears that they are qualified and have given a true and accurate translation to the best of their abilities. To complete an affidavit the client must provide the following information:
The name of the petitioner
The name of the respondent
The county court where the petition will be lodged.
Sworn Translation of a Wedding Certificate in Spanish
As many of our clients get married in Spain or other Spanish speaking countries, we are often asked to provide Spanish-English sworn translations of Marriage Certificates (also called Wedding Certificates). In order to provide an accurate quote we first need to see a copy of the document. You can send us your documents by email, fax (+44 (0)114 263 1959) or post (if you are sending documents by post please do not send your originals- a good quality copy is all we require in most cases).
Once we have seen the document we provide a quote. The price of our quote includes VAT, the cost of the solicitor’s services and special delivery of the documents. Payment can be made over the phone by credit card (£4.00 charge), UK debit card (no charge), by UK cheque or postal order made payable to ‘TransAction Translators Ltd‘, by bank transfer, www.paypal.co.uk (£4.00) and www.moneybookers.co.uk (£2.00). Although prices vary across language combination and word count, as a guide, a recent sworn translation of marriage certificate issued in the Dominican Republic came to £106.

Once the translation has been carried out it will be proofread twice in-house by our qualified linguists. These two checks come as standard and ensure a level of quality and assurance for which other companies may charge extra. As the smallest detail can affect the outcome of a legal case we consider this proofreading to be of particular importance.
Once the checks have been completed the translator will appear before a solicitor and sign the affidavit. Your sworn translation will then be sent to you by special delivery.
