The UK education system is highly valued around the world and tens of thousands of international students enrol at UK universities each year.

For both national and international students, the majority of applications take place through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). When submitting your application you will need to supply details of any qualifications you hold or for which you are currently studying, but you do not need to supply examination certificates or other documentation unless specifically asked. However, it is advisable to check the suitability of your qualifications with the admissions offices at the relevant university before applying.

You will be required to provide an academic reference from a teacher, tutor, or head teacher. If this is not possible, you will need to ask your current employer to provide a reference. If your reference is not in English, you may need to provide a translation. Different universities will have different requirements so it is best to check with each institution before applying. Admissions offices may be willing to accept a reference which is not in English, they may require a non-official translation or they may request a certified translation.

Once you have submitted your application,  individual institutions may contact you requesting proof of your existing qualifications. Depending on the requirements of the individual university, you may need to submit a statement or report from NARIC (National Recognition Information Centre). This  is an official document explaining the  level of your qualifications in relation to the UK’s educational system. Please note that NARIC are unable to provide comparability of specific grades and therefore you may be required to submit your academic transcripts. If your certificates and transcripts are not in English, you may also need to supply a certified translation.
