Following a recent enquiry regarding the translation of supporting documents for registration with the Medical Council of Malta, we decided to do a little research. Although we regularly provided certified translations for people who wish to work in the UK health service and need to register with the GMC (General Medical Council) or other UK-based bodies, this was a rather unusual enquiry.
With both English and Maltese as official languages in Malta the Medical Council of Malta issued in the UK.
For provisional registration with the Medical Council of Malta, applicants are required to provide the following:
· A copy of your passport or identity card certified by the Maltese High Commission or Embassy in you country
· A copy of your original primary medical or dental qualification
· Certificate of compliance from a competent authority (only required for doctors who graduated before 1st May 2004 from Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia or who graduated before 1st January 2007 from Bulgaria or Romania)
· Original official (certified) translations of any documents and certificates that are not in English or Maltese
For full registration without having previously held provisional registration, applications need to be supported by all of the above plus a certificate of good standing from a competent authority. Please note that certificates of good standing are only valid for 3 months from the date of issue.
