With any GMC application, you must provide a translation of every document that is not in English, along with the document in its original language. The GMC only accepts official translations and recommends TransAction Translators on its website.
This post follows the process of translating a Medical Degree Certificate issued in the Union of Myanmar into English for a recent client (named changed for confidentiality of course).
Dr. Tun got in contact with us via email after visiting our website. He required a certified translation of his Medical Degree certificate from the Institute of Medicine in Mandalay to accompany his GMC application. The translation was needed urgently as the deadline for his application was approaching.
We asked Dr. Tun to email scans of his certificate so that we could provide him with a firm quote. Most Burmese degree certificates include a small amount of text on the reverse of the certificate, so we asked Dr. Tun to be sure to include a scan of the back as well.
Once we had received the scans we were able to provide Dr. Tun with a quote and our payment methods.
Dr. Tun paid the same day by bank transfer and emailed us a scan grab of the payment confirmation screen so that we could proceed with the translation immediately. He also provided his contact details as well as his GMC reference number and the postal address of the relevant GMC office so we could post the certified translation directly to correct office of the GMC to ensure it arrived before the application deadline.
Please be aware that there are 3 different GMC offices which deal with application from overseas clients: one in London and 2 separate offices in Manchester, so it is essential that we know which office is dealing with the application when sending documents directly to the GMC for clients.
Dr. Tun also provided a scan of a previous translation of the certificate for reference. The previous translation had been issued outside of the UK and was not a certified translation and therefore it was not sufficient for the GMC. Our translator was able to use the spellings of the names on the previous translation for reference.
Two working days after receiving payment, we were able to email Dr. Tun an electronic version of the certificate for his approval. He was very happy with the translation and we were able to issue the certified translation the same day and send it to the GMC by Special Delivery quoting Dr. Tun’s GMC reference number. This is a service we are happy to offer to GMC applicants, particularly those based outside the UK as it saves a significant amount of time and hassle for our clients. We also sent Dr. Tun, at his request, a PDF version of the certified translation for his records.
If you require a translation of supporting documents for your GMC application, please send us an email to transaction@transaction.co.uk. For more information on how to send us copies of your documents, visit our blog.
